SHORT HISTORY

It was built during the 12th century, in a transition moment between Romanesque and Gothic. It was the private chapel of the lords of Segur, and it was devoted at the same time to St. Mary and St. Michael. This is why it has two apses. Until 1363, it was dependant of the church of St Mary of Cubelles.

Until the 16th century, there was no worship in the chapel, which caused it to deteriorate. In 1508 the Bishop of Barcelona visited the place, and the chapel was repared, especially its roof.

There are no more data until 1921. Since then there was only one mass a year, to celebrate the day of the patron saint, the 24th September.

In 1936 the church was burnt and during the 50s it was improved and cleaned. In 1988 it was transferred to the municipality of Calafell and in 1991 the restoration works were made.

DESCRIPTION

Church with an only nave, rectangle plan and oriented east-west, with semicircular apses at the chancel, one in the middle and another in the noon wall. The external cover is slightly cone-shaped.
The nave is covered with double transcept and reinforced by two main support archs. The walls, one meter thick, are supported by a masonry adornment of irregular size.

The church keeps the ara of the main altar. To the left of the door there is a buttress with rectangular cross-section and triangular shape in order to stop the cracks getting larger.
