SHORT HISTORY

The Citadel was founded in the 6th century B.C., during the Iron Age, by the Iberian, who developed a written culture and coined their own money.

The Iberian chose this area in order to control the long coast of Calafell, with many ponds, and the final section of a small river which led to the interior plains.

Several small farmhouses were found here along 4 or 5 km, they grew cereal, legume, olive trees and vineyards.
At the beginning of the 2nd century B.C., the citadel was destroyed by the Roman, possibly during the punishment campaigns of general Caton.

DESCRIPTION

3.000 m2 perfectly fortified enclosure.

Inside there is the house of a leader, several houses for domestic worship, ovens to bake bread, a rock-excavated well, a tower-store and water drains, partially paved with stones.

The houses are of different type and size, they are built with stone foundations. Ceilings were made of cane on wooden supports.

Most of the houses have their own flour mills and a large range of pottery and tools to prepare or keep food.
